About The AMSIX Netherlands, NL NIKHEF Facility
As a not-for-profit, neutral and independent organisation NIKHEF has a long tradition in the development of the Internet. NIKHEF remains committed to play a role in improving the infrastructure of the Internet.

Since 1996 NIKHEF, together with SARA, has served as housing partner for the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) and its members. Nowadays more than 100 members connect to the AMS-IX at NIKHEF with an aggregate public peering traffic of around 16 Gb/s. NIKHEF houses two other Internet exchanges: NL-IX and Xchangepoint Europe. Various essential Internet services are also located at NIKHEF: an any-cast K-root server from RIPE NCC and several country code TLD servers.

Amsterdam NL AMSIX at NIKHEF Facility Backup Power System
The system consists of a no-break part (a double UPS battery system including converters) and a short-break part (diesel generator). In case of a power failure, the UPS can supply the full AMS-IX electrical power demand for a period until mthe generator starts and supplys power. During this period (typically after a few seconds) the diesel generator will start, supplying electricity to the UPS batteries, the AMS-IX and the cooling system of the AMS-IX housing location.
